There are many different things that can impact your odds of divorce. For example, people who have divorced parents are more likely to get divorced themselves. This certainly doesn’t mean it will happen, but it is interesting to consider how it affects the chances.
Another thing that can impact those chances is simply the career that you choose. Let’s look at a few of the careers with the highest divorce rates and the potential reasons for this:
Flight attendants
According to one study, flight attendants ranked third on the list of jobs with a high divorce rate. Much of the reason for this may simply be that the career requires a lot of travel and a lot of time away from home. Many flight attendants will be entirely gone for days at a time, so it is not as if they are spending the day at the office and the evening with their spouses.
Bartenders
Bartenders actually rank a little higher, at number two overall, and part of the reason here is just the scheduling. If their spouse works a normal 9-to-5 job but they only work the late shift and stay out until the bar closes, the two may not see each other very often.
Nurses
Nursing can also be an issue with scheduling, as some nurses have to work long hours or over the weekends. But another reason for this could simply be that it is a high-stress job. It takes a toll on a daily basis, and many nurses end up suffering from burnout. This can also transfer some stress to the relationship that they wouldn’t have otherwise.
Regardless of the industry that you work in, divorce is always possible, so make sure that you know exactly what legal steps to take if you’re going through one.
